WINRAR 4.01 is a
powerful archive manager. It can backup data and reduce size of email
attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files. Downloaded from
Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format. Changes in RAR
compression algorithm is optimized for the common compression better
utilization of multiple processor cores. While some speed gains are possible
even in single processor mode, the best results were achieved in a multi-core
environment.
Multiple cores
are used more efficiently when compressing large files. WINRAR 4.01 should
increase the memory requirements for achieving a higher compression rate. RAR
general compression algorithm allocates about 120 MB compared to 40 MB in
WINRAR 4.01. WINRAR 4.01 text compression algorithm cannot efficiently exploit
multiple CPU cores, so its performance in a multiprocessor environment is much
lower than the general algorithm.

maximum possible compression ratio for plain text data regardless of the speed,
you can enable compression of text in the "Advanced compression
parameters" dialog. Press the "Compression" button on the
"Advanced" from archiving dialog to access it. You can also change
this option permanently in the default compression profile; in the command line
mode of text compression can be enabled by switching a lot.
"Fastest"
(-m1) compression mode also supports multiple processor cores now. WINRAR 4.01
general decompression algorithm speed slightly improved so far, although it is
not the same as the RAR compression. RAR decompression cannot use multiple
processor cores, so its performance does not depend on the number of cores.
Changes in ZIP compression: now supports WINZIP compression multiple processor
cores generate noticeably higher performance in multi-core environments.
CPU single ZIP
compression is also faster than in 4.11, Memory ZIP compression is used to
increase to about 15 MB. Recovery volume processing can create and use multiple
CPU cores resulting in higher speed. "Find file" command to search
for data in 7-Zip archives. Formerly "Find files" does not support
the .7 z file format. Save the current
settings" button in the dialog "Advanced SFX options" are now
available only when converting an existing archive to SFX.
